Friday Talent Show

The Friday Talent Show is our very own talent and variety show featuring singing, dancing, lip-synch, comedy, and more. It is the highlight of an evening that begins with cocktails and a full meal served at the elegant and historic Elk's Lodge.

Since 2000, attendees at Esprit have had the chance to make their dreams come true, that is, if your dream is to dress up like your idol and get up on stage shaking your booty and performing! This is a chance to show off your talents to an audience that wishes they were brave enough to be up there themselves. No talent is too big or too small for our stage. Esprit usually invites a number of special guests and dignitaries from Port Angeles to attend this popular show.

Back once again, the intrepid girls of Esprit are taking on the Great White Way this year. Come join us as we salute Broadway and the great Broadway Musicals of the past, present and future. Dance in our Chorus Line as we Tap our way down 42nd Street to the Cabaret to the Sound of Music. (OK, we sort of got carried away there!)

As Judy and Mickey were prone to say: We've got a stage (the Elks' Club), I can sing (wanna bet?), you can dance (in your dreams). We can put on a show and save the farm (theater, town, world, whatever!).

So, bring your talent to our Broadway spectacular. Be you a Music Man, a Yankee Doodle Dandy, a Phantom in search of your Opera, or even Mary Poppins or Peter Pan, your act will be given a showcase spot in our little spoof. We'll even do Abba if it pays The Rent on our Little Grass Shack in Urine Town. Cats are OK too from Pussy to The Lion King. We'd love to do the Rockettes but they're already booked at the Music Hall. But then again, you never know. The ghost of Busby Berkley is said to haunt the halls of Port Angeles just looking for some great legs.

Bring your background music and we'll be ready for you. Our house orchestra plays tape, CD's and even an occasional live number. We look forward to seeing you at rehearsal and we know this year's show will be even better than those other ones that came before us.

Important notice!

If you want to join us as talent, we need to hear from you in advance this year! We are planning a big production number which will entail your being at rehearsal on Thursday afternoon at the Elks Club. We also need you to email Debradqcd@aol.com with your (fem) shoe size for a special memento of your participation that you get to keep.

The evening will begin with no-host cocktails followed by dinner. At 8PM the talent show begins, and a number of our dedicated local Port Angeles residents will join at that time to watch this popular show. After the talent show you can enjoy a rocking evening of popular dance songs by the Tacoma-based band The Woodies. They played for us last year and are excited to be returning for an encore!

This event is open to the public for a $5 cover charge (donated to charity) after the meal has concluded (very approximately around 8PM). Esprit staff and a local security guard will provide security and screen guests.

One more day left and we are definitely not ending quietly! On Saturday we start by honoring our first time attendees in a special ceremony ...

There are some basic guidelines that must be followed in order to make the show as enjoyable as possible. Everyone still gets to be in the show (unless there is a real time constraint and too many acts). Pretty much anything goes, as long as it's satisfactory for the diverse, all-age audience that we have at Esprit. Participants will be limited to one turn up on stage with possible exceptions for well-rehearsed performances by players with established track records if we have a surplus of time.

Performers are asked to restrict acts (songs/skits/sketches/etc.) to five minutes, as we're trying keep the show at a reasonable length and fast-paced. Auditions will be held around mid-week, and rehearsals are typically held Friday afternoon. These commitments may mean you miss classes or other activities. The actual audition and rehearsal times will be posted on the weekly schedule as soon as possible, but you should also check the Registration Desk for last minute scheduling announcements.

So get out there, get your acts together and practice, practice, practice! If you have any questions, or want to get your act in the lineup early, please contact the talent show coordinator with your ideas, plans, and what you'd like to do in the show.
